The Lost City of Loulan

Once a crossroads of the Tarim Basin, Loulan flourished before being swallowed by the desert. Its ruins tell of roads, receding waters, and the fragility of kingdoms. A buried memory, it reminds us that trade, too, can be a mirage to be tamed.

Atlas, the bearer of the sky

A hero punished, Atlas supports the celestial vault on his shoulders. His endless effort evokes the weight of the world and the perseverance required for great undertakings. Here, he becomes an allegory for a commerce that maintains the balance of the worlds.

The winged lion of Saint Mark

The winged lion, emblem of Venice, watches over the maritime routes that connected the Mediterranean and Asia. With an open book beneath its paw, it symbolizes strength combined with knowledge. Within the design, it represents the encounter between distant ports and intertwined cultures.

At the edge of the plateaus and oases, beneath the whiteness of the Pamir, a crossroads city stands: arcades and domes, ancient columns, winged lions and steppe eagles watch over its gates.

Here converge the routes of the Silk Road, from the oases of Central Asia such as the city of Loulan to the Mediterranean shores; Sogdian caravans deposit spices, fabrics and stories, and the squares hum with mixed languages.

At the stone thresholds, the silhouette of the titan Atlas supports the vault of the world, recalling the ancient dialogue between the Mediterranean and inner Asia.

From staircase to gallery, from terrace to bridge, the city spirals like a living amphitheater where merchants, musicians and pilgrims cross paths.

In the distance, the dust from the roads redraws the outlines of vanished oasis towns; nearby, the markets display carpets, ceramics and wrought metals.

The composition remains narrative and panoramic: from one level to the next, the caravan remains the guiding thread, linking architectures, beliefs and exchanges, a link between East and West, where the City of the Western Lands opens a new chapter of the Silk Road.
