Silk Road

The Silk Road was never a single road. It was a network of trails, mountain passes and ports that, for more than two thousand years, linked China to Europe across the deserts of Central Asia, the plains of Persia and the shores of the Mediterranean.

Its origins go back to the 2nd century BC, when Emperor Han Wudi sent the envoy Zhang Qian to the kingdoms of the West. The name itself came much later, in 1877, from the pen of a German geographer who wished to honour the most precious commodity of these exchanges.

For these paths carried more than fabrics. Languages, beliefs, motifs and gestures crossed, mingled and changed. Every stage bears the trace of an encounter.

It is this memory that our Silk Road collection translates into a visual language.
